How getting a quote works here
UK homeowners usually want two or three written figures, not a marketplace that auctions the job. On this site you filter the directory by city and trade, read the service area and any public mark such as Gas Safe or NICEIC, then phone or email the firm. The conversation and the quote sit between you and the business.
What to ask on the call
- Whether the first figure is plus VAT.
- What the visit covers, and what sits outside it — scaffolding, parts, skip hire, night rates.
- For gas work, whether the engineer is Gas Safe. For a Boiler Upgrade Scheme job, whether they are MCS-certified.
- When they can visit, and whether that slot is a survey or the work itself.
Typical UK ranges for roof repair, a new boiler and an EICR live on the cost notes. Scheme rules live on the grants page.
