Grants
Boiler Upgrade Scheme, Gas Safe and who you should call
The heat-pump grant in England and Wales is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Gas Safe is a different register, for gas work. Read the amounts and the marks before you treat a headline figure as the whole bill. This site does not decide eligibility.
What the listings show
A mark appears only when it is on the profile. Gas Safe is not a Boiler Upgrade Scheme badge. MCS is the mark GOV.UK and Ofgem expect for that grant. None of the cards here show it.
Twenty businesses mention boilers. Thirteen of those are in London and seven in Manchester. A boiler mention is not a grant, and it is not proof the firm can claim one.
Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The scheme is for properties in England and Wales. The five cities on this directory — London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds and Bristol — sit inside that area. GOV.UK describes it as a grant toward replacing fossil-fuel heating (oil, gas, electric or LPG) with a heat pump or, in limited cases, a biomass boiler. Scotland and Northern Ireland use different arrangements.
You do not receive the money in your account. The installer must be certified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), claims through Ofgem, and must show the grant as a discount on the quote and the invoice. One grant applies per property. Hybrid systems (a gas boiler paired with a heat pump) are not covered. You cannot use it to replace an existing low-carbon heating system.
The amounts below are those published on GOV.UK: Apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme — What you can get. They are not a quote from this site.
| System | Grant | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Air-to-water or ground source heat pump | £7,500 | Standard amount on GOV.UK |
| Air-to-air heat pump | £2,500 | Standard amount on GOV.UK |
| Biomass boiler | £5,000 | Limited cases only |
| Off-gas oil or LPG, air-to-water or ground source | £9,000 | Extra £1,500 on GOV.UK from 21 July 2026 until 31 March 2027, if the property has no mains gas and is replacing oil or LPG |
The grant is a discount, not the whole job. Radiators, a consumer-unit upgrade, insulation and making good can still sit outside it.
Three listings mention heat pumps. All three are London plumbing cards. None show MCS:
- HBM Plumbing and Heating — boilers, CP12, heat pumps
- Plumb GP — boiler repair and servicing, heat pumps
- S&A Plumbing Services — gas boilers, heat pumps
Ask the person who answers whether they are MCS-certified and whether they will make the Ofgem claim. If they cannot, the GOV.UK figure does not attach to that visit. Run the heat-pump savings calculator as a range, then open a plumbing list.
Gas Safe, boilers and landlord certificates
Gas work on a boiler, a cooker or a flue is a legal register, not a grant. Ten businesses show Gas Safe: six in London, three in Manchester, one in Bristol. Use that mark when the job is gas. Do not treat it as MCS.
| Business | City | On the profile |
|---|---|---|
| DJB Plumbing and Heating | London | Gas Safe |
| ElectricFix Science Ltd | London | Gas Safe 967153 |
| ES Electrical & Building Services | London | Gas Safe and NICEIC |
| Hey Plumber | London | Gas Safe 922332 |
| Monument Plumbing Services Ltd | London | Gas Safe |
| PlumbWise | London | Gas Safe 577688 |
| JTS Heating Solutions Ltd | Manchester | Gas Safe |
| Nelson Plumbing & Heating Ltd | Manchester | Gas Safe |
| S Farnell Plumbing and Heating Ltd | Manchester | Gas Safe |
| Fair Trades Building & Maintenance | Bristol | Gas Safe |
Six businesses mention landlord gas certificates or CP12, including HBM Plumbing and Heating, PlumbWise, Albo Plumbing & Heating, AP UK Plumbing Limited and Gas Tec Solutions. That is a tenancy duty, not a heat-pump grant. Ask for the certificate number and the date on it.
Electrical registers and related work
A consumer-unit change, a rewire or an EICR is not the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Six businesses show NICEIC, NAPIT or ELECSA, all in London. A heat-pump install can still need a stronger supply; that electrical work is a separate quote.
| Business | City | On the profile |
|---|---|---|
| Al-Amin Electrical Contractor | London | NICEIC |
| ES Electrical & Building Services | London | NICEIC and Gas Safe |
| Hyde Electricals | London | ELECSA and Part P; landlord electrical certificates |
| MJ Building & Electrical Services | London | NICEIC |
| Sky Electrical Ltd | London | NICEIC; EV charge points |
| THS Electrical Services | London | NICEIC and JIB |
Other cards mention EV charge points or solar without a register mark, including AM Electrical, MK Veasey Electrical Limited and Logical Heating & Plumbing Solutions Ltd (solar hot water). Ask what certificate they will leave with you. Open an electrical list when the quote is wiring, not the heat-pump grant itself.
Other rules that sit beside a quote
Unvented cylinders
CMC Plumbing Drainage & Heating Ltd shows G3. An unvented cylinder is a competence mark, not a government grant.
CIPHE
24-7 TT Plumbing & Heating shows CIPHE. That is a membership line on the card. It does not replace Gas Safe or MCS.
Building work
Extensions and lofts can need building control even when no grant applies. Use the renovation budget tool beside a written quote, not instead of consent.
Cost notes
A grant discount is not a day rate. Read the cost notes before you treat either figure as a bill this site can honour.
What to do next
-
Read the scheme on GOV.UK
Start at Apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. This page does not replace that check.
-
Ask for the mark the scheme actually needs
Gas work: Gas Safe. Boiler Upgrade Scheme: MCS, with the discount on the quote. Electrical alterations: what testing is left with you.
-
Keep the grant and the extra work apart
The GOV.UK amount is a discount on the eligible system. Ask what is outside it before you compare two numbers.
-
Open a list and place the call yourself
Use a city-and-trade page or the contact-details page. Nobody here emails the business for you.
Questions before you treat a grant as the bill
Does this site decide if I can get a grant?
No. Check GOV.UK and the installer who will make the claim. A listing is a name and a number, not an approval.
Does a Gas Safe mark mean I can use the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
No. Gas Safe is the register for gas work. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme needs an MCS-certified installer. Ten businesses here show Gas Safe. None show MCS.
Is the £7,500 figure a quote from this site?
No. It is the GOV.UK grant toward an air-to-water or ground source heat pump in England and Wales. The installer claims it and shows it as a discount. Radiators, electrics and making good can still sit outside that figure.
Why do so few listings show a grant-related mark?
A qualification appears only when it is on the profile. Ten show Gas Safe. Six show NICEIC, NAPIT or ELECSA. Three mention heat pumps. None show MCS or TrustMark.
Where do I go if I want a number to call?
Open a plumbing or electrical city list and use the phone number on a profile. The contact-details page shows the same public numbers. This site does not email or text anyone on your behalf.
